Modern day homes and offices are far larger than they were 30 or 40 years ago. They’re also lacking organisation more than ever because our demand for stuff is outweighing the space we have. Don’t you think its time you get your things arranged? After all, being clean and neat is important.
Storage space is something there never seems to be enough of. Unfortunately, we can’t just expand rooms to create space unless we renovate the property. In order for us to create more storage space in both the home or office, sometimes we just have to get a little creative.
Whether you need storage help, moving and organisation tips, or are just looking for some inspiration, we can help. Your challenge now is to take steps towards de-cluttering your space. Here’s how to do it:
1. Clutter-Free Desktops
Always keep desktops clutter-free. Stack simple trays on top for items you want in sight and in mind, such as bills to pay and outgoing letters. Use a file box to hold items you need to access regularly such as receipts and contact information. Attach a cheap toothbrush holder to the side of the desk to stash pens, pencils, and a pair of scissors. Hang ‘S’ hooks for keys.
2. Set Up Litter Bags Around The House
Leaving litter bags in every room is a great idea because we tend to keep junk just because we can’t be bothered to walk to the bin or put it back in the right place. Keep a reusable shopping bag nearby hanging on a door— you can have several eye-catching shopping bags if you want to brighten the room up a little. When things from around the house start building up, throw them into the litter bag until you can sort it out later. Just remember to come back to them.
3. Shower Organiser
You can always find low cost shower caddies in home and DIY shops. Mounting them to the wall is a great way to stash home and office supplies or even create a gift station by storing stationery and wrapping paper inside. You can add a ribbon to clip pens on to the side too.
4. Label Everything
Labelling is not just for files in folders. Get a marker and some white labels and keep them handy all around the house. In this way, you can label things and will easily know where to put everything back after you’re finished with it.
5. Magnet Hooks
Fitting magnetic wall mount hooks on the side of any shelving units is a fantastic way to utilise space. Hang items on the magnetic hooks and easily reduce clutter inside your home.
6. Glass Jars & Containers
Food that normally takes up room in the cupboards and items taking up shelving space can be left inside simple glass kitchen containers. The clear glass will make it easier for you to spot what you need. Twist-off lid containers or jars are ideal.
7. Artistic Reminders
You don’t really have to spend a lot of money on cork boards and white boards to remind yourself of things you need to do. Instead, why not turn a cheap artist’s painting into a practical, and attractive memo board? For a magnetic surface, attach a sheet-metal square to the back. Hang this above your home or office desk to keep important notes and items visible.
8. Receipt Piggy Banks
Not sorting out your shopping receipts on a regular basis will overflow your place eventually – that’s another source of clutter. Why not keep your finances in order by popping receipts into piggy banks? These containers can also be used for keeping rubber bands, and other small office supplies organised.
9. Room For The Children’s Toys
Using a wire laundry hamper to carry stuffed animal toys for the children/grandchildren. This means that kids can easily pick the one they want from the sides!
10. Disc Storage
As we all know, DVD and CD storage can be such a pain! You can find cheap labelled storage boxes in shopping centres. Putting them inside drawers or stacking them neatly in a corner with an ornament on top is a great idea.
11. Mini Cooking Tray Compartments
Cooking trays don’t only help you cook, they can also help with storing office supplies. Use a cheap cupcake pan to organise small items that have a tendency to get lost in drawers.
12. Boxing It Up
Finding cheap storage is easy if you know where to look. Check out the kitchen and home sections in bargain stores and 99p shops. Use racks for a sturdy alternative to a built-in storage units. Take a stroll down every aisle in a supermarket to find boxes that can house papers, books, and notebooks.
Isn’t it great when we all feel a little more relaxed because everything has a place? A well-organised house and office will always be worth showing off to the world.
